The soles of my feat may never be the same again - Part 1

2010 St. Mark's Youth Pilgrimage - Day 1

Before we left, we knew where we were staying and how we were getting there. We also had some ideas about what we wanted to do. The only thing officially arranged was a kyaking trip on Friday.

On Wednesday, July 7, at 6:30 am, a group of 5 teenagers (the Kids) and 3 adults (R., H. and me) gathered on the waterfront in Seattle and boarded the Victoria Clipper. The Clipper left Seattle at about 7:30 and we were in Victoria around 10:30.

We walked to our Hostel, checked in, put our stuff in our rooms and then headed out to Christ Church Cathedral for their 12:15 Eucharist. At this particular service, the liturgy is based on liturgy used at Iona. We doubled the number of people attending the service. The other people attending the service were very interested in the journey we were starting.

Since we hadn't had any lunch yet we asked the folks at the church if there were any good lunch places close by. They told us about a Tibetan restaurant about a block away. Yummy! It was quite tasty.

After lunch, the kids wanted to go to Miniature World. Afterward, R. and H. went for a walk and I went back to the Hostel with the kids. The girls napped and the boys played foosball. I spent time talking with some of the other hostel guests.

When R. and H. got back, we headed out for dinner. The place one of the kids had in mind had already closed, but we found a pizza place that was still open. Things close early in Victoria - at least in the downtown area! After dinner, H., R. and the kids went for a walk and I headed back to the hostel. They all came back looking happy and refreshed and with food for breakfast.

It was an early night because we had to get up early the next morning to catch a train.

To be continued...
