For several years running, my wall calendars have been calendars by Nikki McClure. She does the most amazing paper art - and each month she chooses a word to represent the month.
July's word is ebb. Now, this word has a negative definition - to decline or decay. But I think I am going to focus on another definition of the word - The flowing back of the tide as the water returns to the sea.
When the tide flows back to the sea and there is a low tide, we can explore tide pools and see the creatures that live under the water - the seastars and crabs and moon snail egg cases.
The ebb tide is a chance to see what is usually hidden.
And certainly my vacation to the ocean - my return to the sea - did me a world of good!
Here's to ebbing!
Upon further thought: Is a decline or decay necessarily a bad thing? What if it is the decline of a bad habit? or of a destructive behavior? These kinds of declines are actually positive, aren't they?
Yes, I am feeling contemplative today. It happens...
